About Mommy Muscles Programming

Pregnancy, although a true miracle of life, presents an ever changing environment that breeds compensation, which left unchecked can lead to dysfunction and eventually injury. This is true especially if we decide to go back to our regular exercise routine too quickly or too intensely. How do you know when it is safe to progress your usual activities? The answer is not as simple as getting the green light at your 6 week check up.

Mommy Muscles was developed for mamas by mamas, it just happens that those mamas both have a special interest in the treatment and more importantly prevention of Pelvic Health concerns pre and post natal. What started as a 6 week program for post partum mamas to help retrain their inner core post delivery has since expanded to include a pre- natal program to be there with you every step of the journey, in Mommy Muscles in Training, as well as a Mommy Muscles 2.0 to continue increasing strength and intensity safely after completing the initial Mommy Muscles foundational programming.

TJ Unger

Hey there Mommas! So a bit about me... I am a musculoskeletal Physio (aka "normal Physio") at heart turned into a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist! If you would have told me when I was in Physio school that I would be primarily be treating people with pelvic floor concerns I would have told you are crazy! I was an athlete and loved investigating how faulty movement patterns would lead to pain and dysfunction and trying to recover people quickly from an acute injury...then life happened. The pelvic floor has such a huge impact on overall function and health, you can not ignore it. I am a proud Mom of two beautiful young girls, and when I had to travel over three hours for my own Pelvic Health Physio I knew we had to figure out a way to make Pelvic Health more accessible...especially to rural communities. I love getting to work with people who after teaching simple breath, alignment and inner core strength tell me that Pelvic Floor Therapy has changed their life. Mommy Muscles was developed in efforts to again increase accessibility to people who couldn't see Tanya and I in person and overall increasing our reach to help as many Mommas (to-be, currently or experiences) as possible!

Tanya Brooks

Hi! I am a military wife and mom of 2 who is an athlete who runs marathons and plays hockey. I love strength training, cross country skiing, biking and being active with my kids.

I am a personal trainer who has become passionate about postpartum fitness and pelvic health after trying to overcome my own diastasis recti and pelvic floor issues. I wanted to get back to the high intensity activities that I love but didn't know how to get there safely or who to ask for help or guidance. So I decided to educate myself to help myself as well as all my clients who either are pregnant, become pregnant or are postpartum. Now I get to be the coach I wish I had.

This 6 week program is perfect for those Mom's-to-be who want to prep their body as much as possible for the journey through pregnancy, delivery and early days with your beautiful bundle. In this program we will go over the key principles in breath, alignment and inner core function with the goal for your inner core to be stronger and more functional in your later stages of pregnancy than before the program! It has a huge educational focus directed towards teaching you about your body changes in pregnancy, how to adapt to it and also how to give your body the best chance at preventing common birth injuries such as rectus diastasis and pelvic health conditions.

This 6 week program will focus on a variety of Pelvic Health topics, breath, alignment awareness and how to prevent injuries. Finally, once your inner core is working as a team again, we safely begin to integrate movement and exercises back into your normal routine. We will use minimal equipment/ body weight resisted exercises to allow you to easily complete this program in the comfort of your own home!

Mommy Muscles 2.0 is a progressive program complimenting our first level of Mommy Muscles. This 6 week program will focus on increasing the intensity of the exercises learnt in Mommy Muscles as well as teaches you proper form and technique to help you increase strength with exercises that are specific to your sport ! Such as Running , Biking and CrossFit! This program emphasizes quality of movement over quantity of movement and load.
